Deleted Subject Validation Records

Clients who received Authority Update Processing following the 2nd quarter of 2008 were notified to delete a number of subject authority records generated for validation purposes. Two groups of these records were received from Library of Congress in two consecutive weeks in April, with nearly 350 such records marked as "deleted". Authority records deleted by LC are removed from LTI files and, in subsequent AUP runs, clients are notified to remove them from the local authority file.

A few weeks ago, several libraries brought to our attention that the records were still present in the online LC authority file. After confirming, LTI notified LC of this discrepancy. We were informed that the records had been deleted inadvertently and had been redistributed. However, LTI did not receive the redistributed records until this week.

Libraries that have already deleted the records will receive new copies of any record which matches a heading in its bibliographic file in the next AUP run. If a library did not delete these record, note that the records will be re-sent in the next AUP run, again presuming that a heading in the bib file is matched to the authority record.
